October Newsletter 2013

A proud and very memorable day for Claire accepting an award from HRH Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace on Monday 7 October as recognition for all her volunteer work throughout Purnells and the League. She was lucky enough to have been part of the 150 FA celebrations at the Palace, and being able to watch the first ever match to be played on the lawns.

The season is now well under way with most teams having now started their fixtures. As many of you may have experienced, parking and traffic at the Club has caused lots of issues and upsets so can we ask that you all do be sensible and respect the other divisions of Purnells if using their car parks. If you are able to share lifts or walk that would be appreciated. Each player has received an email with regard to this so please do check your inboxes.

Your managers should have now handed you the team Astroturf schedule if your age group is using Writhlington Sports Centre on Saturday mornings again this year starting on 2 November. For those using Norton Hill during the week, this will start week commencing 7 October.

Our annual Youth Tournament took place at the Club on Sunday 1st September and was an excellent day. The amount of teams that took part was the largest number to date and some great football was played. The weather stayed dry so that was the icing on the cake.

On Saturday 28 September, 14 of our players from U12 through to U16 took part in a 1st Aid Course that we organised at the club. The 3 hour course has gained them a qualification so congratulations to those that took part.

Carolyn completed the Bristol Half Marathon course in 1 hour and 57 minutes. She very kindly offered any sponsorship money she raised to be given to the club so a very big thanks to her. If you have any outstanding sponsorship money, please give to your team manager ASAP so we can get a letter sent to Carolyn along with the grand total raised.

On Saturday 19 October, we are hosting a Hamster Race night at Paulton Rovers as a family fun night fundraiser.  There are 7 races, each with 7 hamsters which cost £10 each.  Your managers should have issued you with a slip along with details so if you are able to buy a hamster or sponsor a race to promote your business at £25 please let them or Claire know by 12 October. Each race winner receives £25 but if you share the cost of purchasing a hamster with a friend or family member obviously the winnings will be split between you and them.

Our next Youth Player Committee meeting is being held at the Club on Saturday 16 November, 12.30pm after training. It is a great way to be involved with how things work at the club and to have that all important voice for your team. If you son/daughter is keen to become a committee member, please contact Claire on purnellsclaire@gmail.com . We are hoping that Lauren, from the FA, will be able to attend this meeting as she is very keen to find out what our players think and to share ideas from other clubs that have a player committee.

One important piece of information that we ask you to remember is that all our Managers/Coaches/Committee are volunteers and give up their time freely.  Each team Manager will select his/her team as they see fit. You should already know how you will be notified, ie text/email.  Please do acknowledge receipt of any team message saving the Manager valuable time chasing to see if your son/daughter is available to play etc.

We have again made provision for Duke of Edinburgh students at the club to complete their volunteer section of their certificate.

All our coaches qualifications are kept updated so please be assured each member of the coaching team is fully qualified and all have completed the CRB checks needed. If anyone is keen to join our team there are certain forms to complete for Child Welfare purposes but please do not let this put you off helping as this is essential for the care and wellbeing of all our children.

Teas/coffees/hot choc and bacon butties etc are available to purchase from the club on Saturday mornings and on match day so pop into the club and see Dave and Mel.

Purnell Orange/Black socks for sale at £3.30 pair are available from Claire. You may purchase plain black ones available in all sports shops instead. Can you also please ensure you use black tape to match our regulation club colour socks if you need to wear it following FA ruling.

If anyone has any concerns about their team, please do speak to your team manager first and foremost. Only then if you do not get the help or answer you needed or if your concern is a Welfare issue, please do contact Claire, our Child Welfare Officer, on the number below and she will be more than happy to assist you.

Boot Swap – Please feel free to donate or swap your old boots. You will find a tub in the container at the club where you can leave or swap boots or shin pads.

Recycled Clothes – There is a charity container to the rear or the club for you to leave any clothes you no longer require to help raise funds.

Cans – Please recycle all your old drinks cans by placing in black sacks and leaving in front of the clothes recycling bin at the club.

We are having to re look at the Jacket orders due to our suppliers wanting us to now order in bulk. Please contact Claire with size and initial requirements you need but she will have to confirm availability with you then.  All other items of clothing can be ordered at Keypress on 01761 402530 or email on keypresstrophies@hotmail.com . You will find them opposite Casswells in Midsomer Norton.

Our Facebook pages are regularly updated so do take a look. Please do remember to use them correctly and not by putting unnecessary comments on. Feel free to post photos etc you have taken if you think they would be of interest to everyone (Purnell Football ones, not your holiday snaps!!) If you also can please like the Midsomer Norton and District Youth Football League page also.
